Working From Home? Here’s How To Do So Effectively.

Our homes have become the classroom and the office for many of us. Home is where you go to escape from reality. It is our safe place. But now home has become our everything lol. The only place we can go and stay at this point due to coronavirus (covid-19). I don’t know about you but I’ve just about figured out how to master this working from home reality. Don’t get me wrong, I am not complaining as I understand the importance of staying home and practicing social distancing.

Below are a few tips that have helped me come up with a routine to remain productive.

1. Wake up at a consistent time. Let’s me be honest, I am struggling with this tip. I have been waking up around 8:45-9 even 10 am some days. Prior to being quarantined, I would be dressed and ready to start my day at 8 am. Setting a consistent wake up time will allow you to have a consistent schedule for the week and allow plenty of time for a focused and productive day.

2. Find a designated work space. If you don’t have a home office, no worries. After reading this post, go and mark your workspace territory. Find an area in your home that will dedicated to you and you only. Having a designated area will allow you to keep organized and all of your work materials etc in one place. You definitely don’t want to work from your couch. Fighting the temptation of watching tv while working is a battle I would surely lose. Fill your designated work area with positivity. Burn a nice candle, open your window or blinds and get to work.

3. Take scheduled breaks. By allowing yourself time to get up and move around for 10-15 minutes a few times a day, you will keep yourself from feeling burnt out. Stop, slide your chair back and slowly walk away from your work space. Step outside, take a few deep breaths or just walk around your home. Whatever you do, give yourself that time to just relax. Also, be sure to add in time to enjoy your lunch… Away from your work if possible.

More importantly, if you’re homeschooling as well. Set boundaries. Let your family know that they are important and your work is too. Everyone needs to be on a schedule in order to have a successful work from home day. Your kids should have assignments that requires them to focus while you focus on work. If you have smaller children, good luck. You’re on your own. Just kidding but seriously, you’ll definitely need to make some adjustments.

Keep your workspace separate from your children if possible. You don’t need anything getting misplaced and you need that space to completely focus.

At the end of the day, just breathe. This will all soon be over and we’ll be getting back to what was once normal. In the meantime, stay healthy and well.
